Farm to Fork

Farm to fork is a food movement, encouraging people to buy locally grown produce, meats and grains. Eating locally means knowing where your food is coming from and finding food sources closer to your home, minimizing the travel time & energy your food requires to get to you.

This is a collaborative course studying agriculture and vegetable growth as well as how to cook the food grown. This is a 2 part course but must be taken together as there is a lot of over lap time between the two disciplines. Credits will only count if both sections are complete.

  • Soil content and pH levels of different soils

  • Planting & managing fruits & vegetables in the green house

  • Proper feeding & watering of outdoor and indoor plants

  • When to harvest and how to pick fruits & vegetables as to get the full benefit of the plant

  • Different plant growing methods (hanging tomatoes)

  • How to properly wash and handle freshly pick fruits and vegetables.

  • About different locally grown foods including meat and fish.

  • How to plan a dinner menu using only what is available locally and what we grow as a class.

  • How to make several different types of meals using what we grow in the green house

  • How to can and preserve fruits, vegetables, sauces, and jams to store for the off harvest months.
